Abstract

Continuing Professional Development has become essential to modern healthcare, yet in many low- and middle-income countries, including Pakistan, it remains fragmented and focused on attendance rather than meaningful outcomes. As clinical care becomes more complex and team-based, CPD must evolve from isolated activities toward structured, competency-focused and interprofessional learning. Recent frameworks, including the Moore outcomes model and the 2024 WFME CPD Standards, emphasise linking learning to performance and patient benefit. Strengthening CPD literacy, understanding how to identify learning needs, select high-value activities, and apply learning in practice is key to this shift. With clearer policy, faculty development, and system-level support, Pakistan has an opportunity to build a more collaborative and outcome-oriented CPD environment that improves care and strengthens the health workforce.
